Phelps News - May 2013

The last two months have been wild!

19-20 March - Africa Journey launch
Colin helped planned and run a two day event launching our middle leader development process for 2013. 20 leaders who will journey together for a year further developing their knowledge, attitudes and skills as leaders. Great group dynamic and feedback.

22-44 March – The World Needs a Father
Colin helped organize and then attended a three day workshop presented by Cassie Carstens on the role and responsibility of fathers in families and community. Very challenging and inspiring.

28 March – 02 June – OM Africa Regional Leadership Retreat
We had a fantastic time down in Danielskuil, near Kimberley, with most of our leaders from around Africa. The program struck a good balance of time with God, time with each other and time around business. Colin spent a lot of time with individual leaders talking about the values and principles of training that we want to see permeate the regions training processes. Grietjie was able to connect with others involved in the entrepreneurial training ministry.

06 April – Ferndale Bible Chapel Leadership Explored
Colin spent a morning with the church leaders exploring different aspects of leadership. There will be another two sessions during 2013.

08-10 April – 3D Outreach Intern Training
Three days of inspiring the 3D interns for missions and helping them prepare for the cultural challenges they’re going to face when they head out for their year of internships in Southern Africa.

16-21 April – Sports Leaders Training Part 1
Colin travelled up to Kabwe, Zambia to present training on Handling the Bible to a group of sports ministry coaches. The group was very responsive and excited to be able to study the Bible more effectively for themselves and to be able to pass it on in ways that will see lives transformed.

22-23 April – Sports Leaders Training Part 2
Grietjie joined me in Kabwe and while I did a workshop on developing and presenting training she presented basic entrepreneurial training to the other half of the group. It was a dream come true to be training in Africa alongside one another. The kids stayed home with a niece and managed to survive. (Actually I think they enjoyed themselves far too much!)

24 April – 4 May – Furniture Removals!!!
Volunteering to help a colleague move his furniture from Pretoria to Kabwe, Zambia had a number of consequences. Firstly Grietjie and I spent two days together driving the empty truck the nearly 2000 km’s down from Zambia. Not quite a second honeymoon but a great experience nonetheless. Returning the next week with my colleague and his furniture turned out to be much more of a challenge and an endurance exercise. Instead of four days, I ended up away from home for six, and he only got home after two weeks! Customs, paper work, bureaucracy, public holidays and inefficiency gave God ample opportunity to teach patience and trust! We are grateful that the furniture is now safely where it should be!

5 May – 10 May – HOLIDAY!!!!
We spent 5 nights camping at Klein Kariba near Bela-bela about 100kms north of Pretoria. It was a wonderful time of relaxing, sleeping, swimming in the heated pools, and just being away from it all.

Whew! I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

What next?
Colin travels to Belgium to attend OM International’s Senior Leaders training for two weeks and then participate in an international forum discussing personal support raising. I’m away for a total of three weeks so we all need prayer!

Grietjie has an invitation to go up to our Lake Tanganyika team in North-east Zambia to do further entrepreneurial training in mid-June and we’re working on the practicalities of that. Please pray clear guidance and the practical details.

Thank you for your partnership in the Gospel.
